Admission is allowed to a maximum of 35 students per academic year, including a maximum of 10 students educated outside Europe (EU), and a maximum of 6 students internal to SNS.
An official selection procedure is yearly managed by University of Pisa, with two distinct sections for extra-EU and EU candidates..
The official call for admission (academic year 2025/26) can be found here.
Selected candidates typically own a BSc in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics and related disciplines. Selection is carried out by an appointed Selection Committee via a two-step procedure:
- the first step, based on the analysis of the curriculum vitae, the transcript of records, and other required documents, aims at verifying the minimal curricular requirements and defining the list of candidates admitted to the interview and their rank;
- the second step, based on an interview held remotely in case of foreign candidates, aims at verifying the personal preparation of the candidates, as well as their motivations and goals.
The deadline for applications by extra-UE candidates, not residing in Italy, is February 28, 2025.
Please note:
- the session with the mentioned deadline is the only possibility non-European candidates, not residing in Italy, have to participate in the competition: applications cannot be considered outside the call or after its deadline;
- contrary to other MSc courses at University of Pisa, the MSc in Materials and Nanotechnology does not make use of the applymscenglish portal, nor any application fee is foreseen;
- candidates must carefully follow the instructions listed in the call. In particular, they must upload on the prescribed website all required info, including, among others: (i) the transcript of records of their past academic career with marks and ECTS of individual exams, GPA or equivalent information; (ii) the obtained BSc diploma (if already earned) with its final evaluation, if available, and the earning date, or the foreseen date of diploma achievement (if the diploma has not been yet earned at the time of the call).
Applications by EU candidates, or extra-EU candidates already residing in Italy, will open in Spring, with a deadline at the end of August.
