Materials and nanotechnology play a pivotal role in the present industrial and technological scenario, with prospective societal impacts of enormous relevance in terms of quality of life and sustainability (see, e.g., the Materials 2030 Roadmap published by the Advanced Materials Initiative).
At the completion of the MSc programme, our graduates have acquired unique expertise in materials, in their exploitation in a variety of emerging fields, in designing relevant processes and products, in applying the most diverse and innovative technologies and nanotechnologies, in understanding and predicting their influence on the final products, also based on simulations at different scales.
Owing to their cross-disciplinary education combining foundational knowledge and highly specialized competence in Engineering, Chemistry and Physics of Matter, with skills in state-of-the-art material analysis and diagnostics at different scales, graduates find occupation in both the private and public world.
Our graduates can be employed in R&D and qualification departments in private companies involved in design, production, processing, analysis of metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, glasses, semiconductors, for the wide range of applications encompassed in the MSc programme. They include, among others, mechanics, chemistry, biomedics, pharmaceutics, nanoelectronics, photonics.
Interested students are strongly encouraged to make use of the career service at University of Pisa, where many useful information can be found relevant to job placement, including the periodical organization of job meeting events involving private companies.
Materials and Nanotechnology graduates can find occupation in public research labs as well, belonging to research institutions and academy in Italy and abroad. Their formation make them excellent candidates for PhD positions in, among others, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Nanoscience programmes.
Finally, in Italy, our graduates are eligible to participate in the State Examination to practice the profession of Senior Engineer, after registration to Section A in Industrial Engineering class of the Register of Engineers of the province of residence.
